I make origami and beaded jewelry using classic bead weaving techniques. Using a (very skinny) needle and special beading thread, I weave together tiny bits of glass into beautiful and intricate designs. Much like the pieces in my collection, my approach to what I do is eclectic. Sometimes I’m inspired by a particular technique; other times it might be a particular set of beads; and yet others it’s a color palate that I want to work with. Obviously all three of these concepts eventually need to meld together to create the final product. I don’t have a dedicated studio—rather a dedicated bead tray. I work at my dining room table surrounded by large windows that let in the light.

These are strange times indeed. At first it seemed to be a good time to try new ideas, new techniques, new color choices, yet after a while I find myself going back to more familiar and friendly pieces. There is something about the bead weaving process that is very Zen and relaxing for me.

As for the future and how it will affect what I do, I’m not thinking about it in that way. These are uncharted waters and I feel I can’t predict what will be. Perhaps there will be a long term change; and perhaps these will return to a more normal way of life. We’ll have to meet it as it comes.
